Rock Notes

February 2016 Notes
Hello world.
Here is my first band notes for 2016, and so far it's not been a good one for rock musicians, David Bowie, Paul Kantner, Signe Anderson, Dan Hicks, and one of the only other rock guys that shared my birthday, the Ace of Spades, Lemmy from Moterhead. Now they have all gone to that big P.A. system in the sky. I guess it's just that time when all of our musical heroes are gonna start shedding their mortal coil. If your a boomer, all the folks that were making records in the 60's and 70's are hitting their 70's + now, and as you well know, those were some crazy times. Most musicians of that era did their share of smoking, drinking and drug taking, so it's just time and gravity taking over. I was really a big Jefferson Airplane fan. I saw them many times in SF when I was growing up there in the 60's as I tell in musical detail on our San Francisco Sound album, which was released a few years ago. Check it out if you get the time. I think it's a splendid record.
Anyway I will miss seeing Paul Kantner up at Cafe Trieste in North Beach, drinking coffee, smoking ciggies, and talking left wing politics and music with anyone who was around. Paul was the only native San Franciscan, and he loved the city and stayed there till he died. I wish him God's speed to the next quantum reality....
So I think this will be the last year that The Sorentinos will do live shows. We have released 21 albums have been playing live gigs for 30 years this year! With not really too many band member changes, of course, the constants have been Rob and myself, but most everyone stayed a pretty long time, Vinnie, Howard, Kenny, Rory and Steve Lee have all been part of the scene for many years coming and going as the winds of change blew right on by. We may still play a gig or two after next year but it will have to be for something good enough to get me off my couch and these days there is not much that falls in that category! So as of right now we have gigs this summer, and I will start to post them soon. It looks like our first gig back this year after Rob's ankle surgery will be April Fools Day at the new Twin Oaks in Penngrove. I will put it on the gig page once we are confirmed, so if you want to see the band live this could be your last shot. We hope to see many of our friends we've made over the years here in Sonoma County come out and have a rocking time!
dig you later, Danny man

Here is a great article on Rob.....
