Rock Notes

June (almost) 2014
Well, here it is almost Memorial Day 2014,the start summer. At least it used to be, back when i was a wee lad, summer started on Memorial Day and ended on Labor Day. These days they keep changing the dates on the kids going to school, so their summer is shorter. Glad I grew up when summers were longer, that's all I can say! Did't really like school all that much... does it show?
The Sorentinos have a really busy summer planned this year. We will be releasing our 20th album at the end of June, just in time for some summer fun for all you cats and kitties! I am in the middle of mixing the record with my long time buddy Harry Gale, who is the mix master extraordinarie and is really making the songs sound great and just like I had envisioned in my memory encrusted mind. This record kind of takes me full circle musically speaking as I was inspired by all the great music I heard growing up in San Francisco in the 1960's and all the memories I have of that space and time. When I first started playing I wanted to be Peter Green in Fleetwood Mac, and I remember when I heard them for the first time on KSAN 95.9 FM on my cassette radio while I was washing my dad's car. I knew then I wanted to be in a rock and roll band. I never thought about being a songwriter, just a rock blues guitar player with really tight jeans...... little did I know 45 years later I would still be in love with the music and freedom that is rock and roll. Music saved me.... it really did. I was headed down the way wrong path before I was able to envision myself with a guitar in my hand and a future that didn't include manual labor.
So anyway, here we are on what I am pretty sure is The Sorentinos last record album, and I am reflecting on the last 19 albums and all the good times and hard work that was put into every record, and really the most fun was writing the songs and then being able to have a band play them for real people.
So I just want to end this music notes page by saying thanks to all of the people out there that have enjoyed the music and supported the band over the last 30 years.Look for the new album at the end of June/beginning of July 2014. I will write more about the making of the new album in my next installment.
dig you all later , Danny Sorentino
