Rob Ruiz

4 and 12 string bass/vocals

Rob met Danny Sorentino when they shared the stage at the infamous Mabuhay Gardens club in San Francisco in 1984. Danny was the singer/ songwriter with The Chills while Rob was playing bass with opening band, The Bats. After a mutual friend called and said The Chills were close to a record deal and were looking for a new bass player, Rob made the call and has been playing with Danny since 1985.

Rob is a tried and true rock and roll bassist. He plays 4 and 12 string bass guitars onstage and was inspired by Paul McCartney, Bill Wyman, and John Enthwistle… and bands like Cheap Trick, The Ramones, The Smithereens, ZZ Top, Grand Funk Railroad, Creedence Clearwater, and Brownsville Station.

He toured nationally in the late 1970’s with Rolls Rock, a Eureka, California based rock and roll trio. Rolls Rock opened shows for acts such as Van Halen, Rick Springfield, Pablo Cruise, Black Oak Arkansas, and Eddie Money before they disbanded in Houston , Texas in 1982. After moving to Marin County, he joined up with Eureka pals to form The Bats in San Francisco from 1982-84, and then played blues bass with Dana Hubbard and the Delta Twisters in the SF Bay Area from 1984-85.

Rob collects rock memorabilia, bass guitars (he has 30 at last count), and is a wildlife educator in his spare time. His rock trio The Beer Scouts (which feature two ex-Sorentinos members; Kenny Susan and Howard Vatcher) have rocked brew pubs and clubs throughout California and Nevada since 2016.
